About Kendo

Kendo, known in Romanian as "the way of the sword," is the art of traditional Japanese fencing. This martial art has deep roots in Japanese history and culture. After centuries of evolution in sword fighting techniques, training methods have been adapted in recent history to use protective equipment. Today, Kendo is recognized worldwide and practiced in over 40 countries, each with official organizations that are part of the International Kendo Federation.

The purpose and objectives of practicing this martial art are defined in the Concept of Kendo. Kendo is both a competitive sport and a martial art (budo) with well-established rules and regular events, the most important being the World Championships, held every three years.

The Concept of Kendo

It consists of disciplining the character through the consistent application of the principles of the sword (Katana).

The purpose of practicing Kendo:

  • To train the mind and body
  • To cultivate a vigorous spirit
  • And through correct and strict training
  • To strive for progress in the art of Kendo
  • To respect human honor
  • To act with sincerity
  • To pursue self-development
  • To contribute to the development of culture
  • To promote peace and prosperity

Instructors:

Alex Stupu (5th dan) is the co-founder of the dojo and a dedicated practitioner of Kendo. He began training in 2006, attracted by the rigorous discipline offered by this martial art.

Over the years, Alex has participated in numerous international seminars, training camps, and competitions, gaining extensive experience both as a practitioner and as an instructor. He is recognized for his firm and detail-oriented teaching style, emphasizing the development of proper technique.

Alex believes that thorough physical training is essential for progress in Kendo, and his approach focuses on building a healthy, resilient body that is prepared for effort.

Alice Creanga (4th dan) discovered Kendo in 2011 and, although she put off attending her first training session for almost two months, Kendo proved to be the perfect solution for her desire to become stronger. Practicing Kendo has provided her with a framework in which she has been able to cultivate discipline and self-confidence—fundamental aspects of everyday life.

With a deep interest in Japanese culture, which she has had for years, Alice has found in Kendo a form of personal expression that combines tradition with pushing personal limits. She is known for her infectious laugh and the determination with which she approaches each training session.

In preparation for her next exam, Alice continues to perfect her favorite techniques, especially kaeshi do.
