IN THE HEART OF THE DELTA! (BOAT TRIP THROUGH THE DANUBE DELTA TO THE FISHING VILLAGE OF MILA 23) 4-5 hours

The route opens the gateway to the Delta:Tulcea and following wider or narrower canals that branch off from the main arm of the river, as we move forward and the noise of the city disappears, we can fill our ears with the sounds of birds and reeds or the almost whispered chirping of birds hidden among the willows. Reeds and cattails sway on the banks, and among the white and yellow water lilies, we can see lazy frogs, iridescent dragonflies, and sometimes the fleeting silhouette of an otter or a shy raccoon. A white pelican glides above the water's surface—the king of the Delta—looking for the right place to fish. In deeper waters, carp and old catfish lie hidden, and above them fly black cormorants, diving in search of food. The landscape changes subtly with every turn. The forests of old willows and silver poplars give way to floodplains, where you can hear the buzzing of insects and the rustling of wild duck wings. The air becomes saltier as you approach the middle of the Delta, and the silence takes on a depth that seems to embrace everything when you have time to listen to it. When the boat finally reaches Mila 23, you see the fishing village in all its glory—an island of time. The blue houses with thatched roofs are reflected in the water, and the locals greet you with a warm smile, accustomed to visitors who come to taste the tranquility of the place. Here, Lipovan traditions intertwine with the beauty of nature, and a fish soup or storceag served in local restaurants seems to have the very taste of the Delta. A DAY BY BOAT IN THE DANUBE DELTA

The adventure begins!

In the morning, we board the boat in Tulcea and set off on the WATERWAYS  of the Danube Delta. As we leave the city behind and the landscape around us changes, with boats replacing cars, white and yellow water lilies, tall reeds and willows, birds, we enter a world where time has different coordinates! Along the way, we can see white pelicans, graceful egrets, cormorants, but also some rare species, such as the red heron, the blue heron, the cudalbul... or the extremely rare polar diver!  The guide tells us about the aquatic life of the place... and... we arrive in... Mila 23 Village – the fishing soul of the Delta, a picturesque place where the houses have reed roofs and walls painted in white and blue. This is the birthplace of the famous Olympic champion Ivan Patzaichin! Here we learn how the people of the Delta live, how they build their boats, and how they prepare the fish they catch.

We then head towards Letea – a world from another fairy tale! From here, with an off-road vehicle, we enter the Letea Forest, a true wonder of nature! Among the sand dunes grow old oak trees covered with lianas, like in a jungle. If we are lucky, we can see wild horses living freely in the area – an impressive sight! And after running after the wild horses, tired, we head for a delicious fish meal, served at a gastronomic spot, as only eaten in the Danube Delta, like at the fishermen's homes! And after such a hearty meal... we leave for the cosmopolitan

Sulina – the town between the Danube and the sea with its stories

In the afternoon, we arrive in Sulina, the easternmost town in Romania, where the Danube flows into the Black Sea. From the boat, we catch a glimpse of the old lighthouse and the Danube's mouth, and we stop—for the last time on this journey—either at the fine sandy beach for a refreshing swim in the Black Sea, or at the Sulina seafront to hear stories about pirates, sailors, and how the Delta/Danube was formed. After this last break, we embark on our return to Tulcea, carrying with us unforgettable memories and images of the Delta's wild nature.
