HOW DOES THE INDIVIDUAL BREASTFEEDING COUNSELING SESSION WORK?

• You will meet (physically or online) with Sorana Muresan, IBCLC specialist, who will listen to your breastfeeding story
• Then, a complete anamnesis is done (mother, baby, situation)
• Sorana Muresan observes and evaluates the suckling (attachment to the breast, suckling technique, baby's position, etc)
• If necessary, the specialist intervenes and corrects the problem
• Gives you clear explanations and teaches you what and how to do
• If necessary, teaches you how to use certain techniques/technologies (manual/pump, tube, syringe)
• Makes sure you understand what to do
• Answers your questions
• Gives you recommendations in writing, so that everything is very clear to you after the Consultation is over
• Expects you for a reassessment in a few days, if necessary
• He is happy to be with you when the problem for which you have called him is solved

WHEN IS BREASTFEEDING COUNSELING RECOMMENDED?

• You can request a Breastfeeding Counseling session immediately after the birth of your baby
• If you just want to make sure that you get a good start with breastfeeding, but especially if you have problems and want help, support and concrete solutions to solve them
• Your baby is not latching on correctly and/or refusing the breast, fussing at the breast or seems unhappy after feeding
• Your baby spends a lot of time at the breast, falls fast asleep with the breast in the mouth and does not suck effectively
• Your baby seems to want to sit all day with the breast in the mouth and you can't tell the difference between effective and ineffective sucking (although "comfort sucking" is a real need for your baby, it is important to know when your baby is getting milk and when he/she is just sucking for pleasure, to avoid the risk of underfeeding or even dehydration!)
• You experience insufficient lactation
• You have breast problems (engorgement, sore nipple or breast during suckling, blocked ducts, mastitis, abscess)

• understand that breastfeeding is physiologically possible for any mother
• learn, in practical terms, what to do at home with your baby and what indicators to watch to make sure that your baby is suckling effectively and getting enough
• learn some breastfeeding positions to use successfully once you get home

BREASTFEEDING COUNSELING IS NOT FOR YOU IF:

• in the first 6 months, your baby is exclusively breastfed, is developing properly, and you have no sucking pains or other breast problems
• your baby is (also) receiving formula milk, but you consider that this form of feeding is suitable for your baby, on the principle that "babies can grow up on formula milk"
• you expect "miracle solutions" to solve serious lactation or breastfeeding problems instantly and effortlessly. It's important to realize that some problems can be solved quickly and easily, but others require time, effort and perseverance!
• You expect to be offered a "guarantee" of a successful breastfeeding! Sorana Muresan assures you that she offers you solutions and support, but guarantees are for products, not for living beings...
• you prefer to wait for problems to pass by themselves or resolve spontaneously
