Adventure for two, 4 days in the Retezat Mountains

A four-day expedition in the Retezat Mountains is the kind of experience that takes you completely out of your daily routine and throws you into a world dominated by dramatic peaks, glacial lakes, and trails that challenge you at every turn. From climbing iconic peaks such as Peleaga or Retezat to crossing glacial basins where the silence is broken only by the wind and your footsteps, each day brings an intense mix of effort, freedom, and wonder. In the evening, the shelters or tents become places of storytelling and recovery, where you truly feel the satisfaction of a day spent in nature.

As you advance through the National Park, you discover lakes such as Bucura or Zanoaga, which seem to be taken from an untouched world, and the panoramic views give you the feeling that you have reached the roof of the Carpathians. The group quickly bonds, because the mountain has the gift of creating authentic connections between people who share the same path and the same challenges. At the end of the four days, you leave Retezat with a collection of intense moments, with a mental clarity that is difficult to achieve otherwise, and with the feeling that you have experienced a true adventure, one that will stay with you for a long time.

Discover the mountain with the most glacial lakes in Romania (82), the string of lakes in the Bucurii caldera, the ascent to Peleaga Peak (2,509 m), Papusa Peak (2,508 m), and Retezat Peak with its legend.

Why Retezat?

Due to its beauty, Retezat National Park is the first national park established in Romania. The Retezat Massif is one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in Romania. Here you will find the most glacial lakes in the country, including: Zanoaga, the deepest, Bucura, the largest, and Taul Agatat, the lake at the highest altitude in Romania. The spectacular landscapes, the superb mountain flora, the lakes scattered all over the mountain, the trails accessible without technical difficulty, all these make Retezat a must-visit mountain that will delight your soul.

PROPOSED ROUTE

Day 1: Arrival in Retezat Park in Carnic-Cabana Pietrele

From Carnic, we will begin the ascent to Cabana Pietrele 1,480 m, entering Retezat National Park (approx. 1.5 hours). Accommodation at Cabana Pietrele.

Day 2: Retezat Peak 2,482 m

In the morning, we will set off on the route Cabana Pietrele - Muchia Lolaia - Retezat Peak 2,482 m - Bucura I Peak - Bucaura Saddle - Stanisoarei Saddle - Stanisoara Valley - return to Cabana Pietrele (7-8 hours).

Optional variant for day 2: Early in the morning, we set off towards Valea Pietrele - Curmatura Bucurei 2,206 m - Vf Bucura II 2,372 m - Vf Bucura I 2,334 m - Poarta Bucurei, descent into the Bucurei caldera - Taul Portii 2,260 m, the highest lake in the Carpathians - the string of lakes Taul Agatat, Florica, Viorica, Ana, Lia, Bucura, the largest glacial lake in the Carpathians, 9 ha - Valea Pietrele - return to Cabana Pietrele (8-12 hours).

Day 3: Peleaga Peak 2,509 m

As the sun rises, we set off on the route Valea Pietrele - Curmatura Bucurei - Vf Peleaga 2,509 m, the highest peak in the Retezat Massif - Pelegii saddle - Vf Papusa 2,508 m/Portile inchise/Valea Galesului/Cabana Pietrele (10-12 hour route)

Depending on the weather conditions and your preparation, from Vf Peleaga you can take the descent route through Valea Rea (7–9 hours)

Day 4: Taul dintre Brazi and Return home

In the cool morning, we set off on another wonderful route: Pietrele Cabin - Valea Galesului - Taul dintre brazi - Pietrele Cabin (3-4 hour route).

We collect our luggage and return to Carnic around 12 noon.

Transport by car to Deva, return to Petrosani

The price includes:

Tourists from other areas can join the main group at Ohaba de sub Piatra - towards Carnic, the last village - But we are staying at the Pietrele Cabin

The price does NOT include:

Meals, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for you and the guide, or any other services requested by you but not specified in the program, any additional services caused by force majeure (e.g., expenses incurred as a result of extending your stay due to bad weather)

In Retezat, we will take a tour of medium difficulty due to the longer routes, but which do not pose any technical problems. However, you will be rewarded with unforgettable landscapes and you will go home with breathtaking photos! It is ideal to be in good physical condition and have a minimum of mountain experience in order to fully enjoy its beauty.

Please note! As is typical of high mountains, we can expect sudden changes in weather!
