Underwater brewery in Covasna - Enjoy a craft beer underwater

We present a new concept, never seen before in Europe: an underwater brewery, where you can enjoy a Csiki Sor craft beer and a unique experience! Underwater, as incredible as it sounds, there is an entire brewery with a bar, fridge and many other surprises. It's sure to be a unique experience, both for the participants in the lake and for those who stay on the surface and watch. 

The story of the place:

Respect for the past and the preservation of traditions are very important to the inhabitants of the Ciuc depression. During communism, there was an alcohol factory here, and when we built the underwater brewery, it was also out of this respect for tradition that our partners decided to reuse the old and valuable elements of the factory. For example, here you can see the bar built from the 5 km of track that existed on the brewery's territory at the time.

We asked our partners how this idea came about and they answered:

A: "We tell the trainees that often, as underwater, anything can be done as on the surface. The idea was born on a Saturday night, full of beer and creativity. The bollard pointing to the Csiki brewery in town would look great underwater. And if we're going to have a mile marker underwater, why not have a whole brewery? This underwater bollard not only indicates the distance to the brewery but also how many kilometres to the surface! Nothing is accidental."

How long does it take to prepare a person to enjoy a beer underwater?

A: "If the rescued person has never experienced diving before, they should attend a 40-minute pre-dive preparation. So, you do NOT have to be a certified diver to visit the underwater brewery.We make sure each person is properly equipped and has understood all the steps from the surface. Safety first!"

How can you drink underwater?

If you have a mouthpiece, how do you drink your beer? How do you manage to drink liquids when you're in one?

A: "Everything is explained to you, so you can dive safely. We dive in, sit at the bar (there are bar stools), and basically open the beer. The bottle has to be covered with a finger, so that the water in the lake doesn't mix with the beer and the fish don't get into the bottle. We take the bottle opener out of the mouth and start lifting the bottle. When the bottle is stuck to the mouth we start blowing air into it and this air will push the beer out. We take the bottle opener back, blow air and repeat the action."

Do the diving regulations prohibit underwater drinking?

A: "Yes, for this very reason, everyone will consume beer on their own responsibility. Those who don't will be able to enjoy the beer on the surface after finding the long-lost treasure of the Seals."
